A modern story of the pursuit of fortune in the world of oil rigs in West Texas. A landowner, at least one of whom works in the oil industry, will be the middleman between the exploration companies and the landowners. Typically, the landowner’s job is to negotiate and finalize agreements with landowners who hold mineral rights to lease those rights to the company they represent. Like a foreman on a construction site, they build roads, build workers’ housing (worker’s camp), supervise the assembly of excavators, and the drilling of the site itself, especially in remote locations. They are also part problem solver, troubleshooter, and facilitator. See CBS News Sunday Morning: Episode #44.24 (2022). This could easily be rated 8.5-9. If not for the nasty and so sexually explicit daughter & ex-wife/mother. They serve no plot purpose and are downright annoying and offensive to the women of West Texas. As a native of far West Texas, I kind of get where Sheridan is coming from, but it’s scary. West Texas women are the strongest, most ambitious women I know. Plus, the writing and acting are great. Sheridan could easily have another Yellowstone on her hands if she could get rid of the awkward inter-family extreme. But then again, I love Sheridan’s writing (and acting) and for the most part, it’s an absolutely thoroughly enjoyable show.
